I am a history teacher taking a year out to pursue other interests and courses of post-graduate study. This blog contains my first attempts at writing fanfiction, or any form of fiction. It is very much a working document and subject to many re-edits.What I write is based on the wonderful works of J.R.R. Tolkien, (edited by C. Tolkien), and is purely for my own pleasure and relaxation. I certainly do not do this for profit of any kind. Some chapters are at present submited to ff.net and 'The Council of Elrond' sites, although Nerdanel's Story is undergoing a lot of re-writing at the moment. There are many ideas and some names that I have taken from the 'History of Middle-Earth' series, so some terminology may be unknown to those who have just read 'The Silmarillion'. I am not an expert on Professor Tolkien, Quenya, or on writing, so I will probably make lots of mistakes! But as I mentioned, I am doing this for fun, and happy to learn as I go from those whose writings and thoughtfulness I admire. The avatar is one of my own sketches of Nerdanel.

It has been a really unusual couple of months, with far less time to hand than I had ever hoped. I seem to have had far more company than usual, far more to do, and holidays! I have found it so much harder to get on with any writing.

At the moment there is a bit of a hiatus, but I have got much of Flame Rekindled published on Torc, C of E and Open Scroll Archives. Chapter six and seven are almost ready, but I am waiting on the return of the muse to finalise them.

I am afraid I have been taken over by a desire to re-edit all the early chapters of Nerdanel's Story. While in the Lake District my head was buzzing with ideas and I had to sit on hillsides, (often wet and windy), with my notebook. I will edit the chapters on C of E as I go, but will have to re-submit them to Torc.... and I will start afresh on Open Scrolls.

So much still to do! But with no further holidays before Christmas I really hope to work through lots of things and get Flame almost finished by the end of the year.

Oh, and I am going to the battle of Hastings next Sunday afternoon! I am looking forward to that - I think!

Yeah, I know what it's like -- no matter how badly you want to finish a story, "the best-laid schemes o' mice and men / Gang aft agley", as Robert Burns says. *nods in silent agreement* But, if God is blessing your work (as I believe He is!), this'll get done one way or another. :)

Oh...and I should be able to send you a nice, long, leisurely PM this week. It's about time we swapped news again, isn't it? :)

Until then, love 'n' hugs!

P.S. Forgive my ignorance, but what is the battle of Hastings?

Hi, Eru_Melin! It has been way too long since I have written properly to you. I will put that right today! :-)

Battle of Hastings? Sorry, I forget sometimes where you are! *embarassed look*. 1066 - between a Norman and an Anglo-Saxon army. The Normans won in real life..in the re-enactment, anything could happen! I will send you a link.

Hey, thanx for the "waffle" and for the info on Hastings! *grins* I went to the link and was thoroughly enlightened. (What a shame, I don't even know my English history.)

That makes me think...I would really like to learn more Scottish history. No doubt it would be fascinating! I wonder if there are any college courses on that? (I'm probably dreaming....)

Just an update: school has been time-consuming (and mind-consuming) for the past two weeks, so, you're right -- I haven't gotten much writing done. Or editing. :( I'm about halfway through the Flame chapter, but haven't touched it in a week. Thankfully, the essay for American Literature has been turned in, so I should be able to get back to my normal beta routine. (Hey, that sounds cool -- "beta routine"!)

Also...about my writing...you see, *struggling to explain*, it would seem I have this inner "pendulum" of sorts. One side is the fantasy-ish, Lord-of-the-Rings-ish mindset. The other is the futuristic, Star-Wars-ish mindset. Lately the pendulum has swung toward Star Wars. *grimaces* So I haven't gotten much done on Celebrían's story.

What do I do when my pendulum is on Star Wars? Watch DVD documentaries and play my brother's computer games. :) Definitely not the best use of my spare time! I'm trying to keep such things to a minimum -- *especially* when I have beta-reading to do.

Well, this is one waffle of a comment! Maybe it'll take some weight off my PMs, eh? :)

Love 'n' hugs!
